Situation update of identified cases and responses in Japan-7

More cases have been reported from two prefectures, Hyogo and Osaka, which are adjacent to each other. As of 9:00 a.m., May 18, 2009, a total of 30 confirmed cases have been reported from the two prefectures stated above (26 cases) and Narita Quarantine Station (4 cases). Many of them are high-school students. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing to clarify the transmission route and epidemiological links between the cases. Public health interventions that were already implemented include school closure and advice for cancelling or postponing of large gatherings.
